An exciting opportunity to work through three mediums responding to the land and sea around Dunmore East with artists David Begley and Hanneke van Ryswyk. David and Hanneke both find the sea an endless source of inspiration for their imaginative works.
– We will work outdoors as well as in the studio and wish to encourage individual approaches to drawing, print and painting using the sea as and coastline as source.
Day one: drawing with David Begley
David will talk about his work in drawing, print, painting, animation and story – all prompted by the sea, as well as showing images by other sea inspired artists. Beginning with David’s Circle exercise and working in home-baked driftwood charcoal we will draw directly from the sea and local coast.
Day two: printmaking with David Begley
Using your drawings as source, we will experiment with a range of methods in order to create monotype prints using an etching press.
Day three: painting in acrylics with Hanneke van Ryswyk
Hanneke will introduce her work in painting and show examples of painters excited by land and sea. We will gather quick studies from the surrounding coastline and returning to the studio, use a selection of techniques to build up layers of paint to create colourful and textural land and sea inspired paintings.
