Course concept
Explore lovely Dunmore East, painting in the open air with artist Tony Robinson. Paint clifftop views, boats, waves, village scenery and woodlands easily accessible from the village.
It was the French Impressionists who first considered the paintings made outside the studio to be completed, exhibition works. Today, the practice of outdoor painting, known as ‘en plein air’, is a fast-growing movement around the world with groups and events to take part in or to just enjoy the fresh air and sunshine on your own or with friends and bring home a creative record of your day.
Get tips on what materials and equipment to use, how to paint efficiently, how to capture light and atmosphere, how to judge values as well as advice on colour-mixing. Over the three days, this course will cover all the basics and more. There will be ample time to answer your questions on painting effectively in the field. Each session will feature a demonstration and some one-to-one tutoring. Afterwards, you can take part in the wide range of outdoor painting holidays with confidence.
Tony Robinson has painted outdoors for many years, winning awards in plein air events in Europe and USA and acting as judge for other plein air events. Tony prefers to paint in oils but will endeavour to make this course adaptable and applicable to painters who prefer acrylics, pastels and water media.
