Course concept

The course will introduce the artist/participant to every aspect of encaustic painting starting with stretching a small canvas, making a stretcher suitable for this technique. We will grind the pigment, heat the damar and introduce it to the hot wax and pigment thereby making our own paint. Participants will be encouraged to  experiment, to paint on different grounds, to use different tools to gouge, draw, cut and generally explore what this extremely versatile material can do.
The participant, at the end of this course should be able to set themselves up in their  own studios with a minimum of fairly readily available equipment to continue their own exploration of encaustic  painting.

* Note – course cost does not include accommodation. Artform also provides an artist accommodation package.
Details on art materials required to participate in the course will be provided after signing up to the course.
