Shevaun Doherty is an award winning Irish botanical artist whose highly detailed watercolour paintings capture the intricate beauty of nature.
Passionate about conservation, her artwork is often used to raise awareness. She designed a number of sets of Irish postage stamps featuring bees and rare species starting from 2018 up to present day, and the logo-image for the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan 2015. Shevaun’s work is held is in the Natural History Museum of Ireland’s collection. She gives regular workshops at home and abroad.

Course concept
Do you love nature and want to know how to capture vibrant hues of flowers in paint?
Join award winning artist Shevaun Doherty for a three days of flowers and watercolour painting.
This three day Botanical Art Workshop will unravel the mysteries of colour mixing, and show you how to achieve the rich colours of summer flowers in watercolour.
Learn how to create realistic light and form through the watercolour techniques of washes, glazes, and drybrush, and how to build up depth and vibrancy of colour through layering.
An experienced tutor, Shevaun will demonstrate her painting techniques as well as giving practical advice on how to set up botanical subjects for painting, how to choose the right colours, and how to finish and present your artwork.
Whether you are a beginner or simply wish to improve your painting skills, this friendly and informal class will inspire you to pick up your brushes and enjoy the colours of your garden.
The class will cover
- Observational drawing
- Colour mixing and colour theory
- Tonal awareness
- Watercolour techniques- wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, glazing and dry brush
- Botany for Artists
* The course takes place in Artform modern ligh-filled seaside studio with 24hr access for each visiting artist, and runs from 11am to 5pm on the first day and from 10am to 4pm on the subsequent days. Cost does not include accommodation, on request Artform offers artist accommodation options. Details on art materials will be provided after signing up to the course.
