Sean Molloy is a Dublin-based fine art painter. He received a 1st class BA honours in painting (NCAD, 2011), followed by an award of MFA (NCAD, 2013). Sean currently teaches at NCAD and the RHA School.
This course will explore the watercolour painting methods employed by the 19th century landscape painters J.M.W. Turner and his contemporaries Thomas Girtin, R.P. Bonington and David Cox.
The purpose of the workshop is not replicate the style of these past masters but to experiment with the various techniques they employed to achieve such stunning naturalistic effects in depicting sea and landscape subject matter. The emphasis will be on the effects of light and shade achieved by the use of a limited palette overlaid with fine detail. The course will also include advice on the materials and techniques necessary to develop competency as a watercolour painter.
